ResChem Technologies are suppliers of a wide range of specialty resins, additives and pigments to various industries:

Resins

Synthetic resins are materials with a property of interest that is similar to natural plant resins: they are viscous liquids that are capable of hardening permanently via the application of chemical curing, heat and/or pressure.

Our industrial resins are used in a wide range of applications including paints, decorative & industrial coatings, and composite materials. Sustainable resins systems such as water-based, powder and UV-curing resins provide solutions that eliminate solvents or volatile organic compounds without compromising the quality of your final product.

Covestro has a dedicated division that draws upon its broad know-how and understanding of market and customer needs to develop innovative resin solutions that deliver the best performance in the coatings and graphic arts markets.

We provide Covestro resins for the coatings, construction, adhesive and graphic arts market. Covestro support our customers with manufacturing sites in North America, Europe, and Asia.

Additives

Additives are substances included in formulations in relatively small amounts in order to alter or enhance certain properties during manufacture or in the finished product.

Wetting and dispersing additives are used to stabilize pigments and extenders in liquid media, to wet solid particles, and to remove uncontrolled flocculation. Managed deflocculation of solid particles improves gloss and leveling, prevents flooding in pigment mixtures, reduces viscosity, and allows larger quantities of pigments and extenders to be worked in. Controlled flocculating additives are also available for application in primers and extenders to prevent sagging and settling.

Surface additives prevent surface defects and improve surface properties such as slip, leveling, substrate wetting, and scratch resistance.

Defoamers and air release agents suppress foam formation and cause bubbles that have developed to destabilize and burst so that they do not cause defects.

Rheological additives increase the viscosity of liquid media, control flow, reduce sedimentation of solid particles and minimize sagging on inclined surfaces. Furthermore, it is possible to optimize the orientation of effect pigments and, with it, the effect formation. Viscosity depressants are used to lower viscosity and permit the use of higher filler volumes with the same viscosity and reduction in the plasticizer content.

Adhesion promoters are used to increase the adhesion between individual coating layers or the adhesion of a single coating on a (metallic) substrate.

Wax additives increase or decrease surface slip, improve scratch and abrasion resistance, and increase hydrophobicity. Depending on the size of the wax particles, the additives will reduce gloss and can be used for matting to create structure/texture, and to adjust the haptic properties of surfaces. Special types can also be used to adjust the rheology.

UV absorbers based on nanoscale inorganic particles prevent coatings from degradation due to high-energy UV radiation and also protect sensitive substrates, such as wood.

Processing additives serve to optimize the processing properties of synthetic materials, especially compounding and extruding.

Pigments

Pigments are widely used in the paint and coating industry to provide a metallic effect as well as to perform technical functions like corrosion protection, reflection, conductivity etc. For the non polluting waterborne and powder coating systems special product ranges have been developed to meet the challenging requirements of these coatings. Our pigments are available in paste and/or powder form and comprise the following:

  • Aluminium pigment pastes and powders

  • Zinc pigment pastes and powders

  • Gold bronze pastes and powders

  • Synthetic pearlescent pigments
